Day 3 – First look at our new accommodation for the year

We woke up to an extra 2 inches of snow this morning. The kids were surprisingly chirpy considering they didn’t get to sleep until two last night. Circadian rhythm still unwired.
After breakfast I decided we would go for a walk and get some fresh air to try out all our new clothes. There are some magnificent houses on the waterfront. Lots of old money. Big Georgian mansions.
Highlight of our trip was finding two squirrels chasing each other up a tree. Lachie and Olivia got busy making snow angels. They tried to make snowballs and a snowman but the snow was too fresh and wouldn’t pack. Adam was too cold to join in but warmed up with a hot chocolate on the way home.
Gaz, in the meantime, had been in to work and was now free to organise buying the car, getting licences and obtaining insurance. We had to hire a car whilst ours is being serviced so I got to drive the Honda Civic. Heaps of fun driving on the other side and more than a little nerve wracking.
More thrift shopping this afternoon. We have discovered mittens are much warmer than gloves and most Canadians wear them. They only use gloves for driving. The thrift stores are like warehouses and smell quite clean. Great quality gear too. We need this for Quebec in a weeks time.
Malcolm and Debora had us over for homemade apple pie and ice cream tonight and to meet the neighbours. Garry and I missed out as we had an appt at the bank (that’s Gaz going through the drive thru), but the kids got to say hello. All of their children are younger than Olivia but will go to the same school.
We had a good look around the house when we got back. It’s a lovely three bedroom house with a basement for the kids to hang out. That’s where the boys will sleep when mum and Damon come over. It had a gorgeous sunroom at the back for the 3 seasons. Living is on the first floor with bedrooms on the second.
All exhausted right now and ready for bed. Last night in our hotel with the lovely czech owner who has looked after us well. We have had a busy couple of days riding this roller coaster of decisions. Thank you Sharon for taking care of things back home. Tomorrow we move into our new home for the year. Can’t wait!
Good night beautiful people. Jxx

  1. What a great blog, Janice – thank you! I was talking to a friend last night about you guys moving over there for the year, as they know Canada quite well. I couldn’t remember which city it was – just not the French side. So it sounds like you are in Toronto? What is the body of water near you – which was looking decidedly snowy?!
It all sounds sooo different different – good luck with it all. Your family over here will be appreciating the regular updates. 🙂

    1. Thanks Barb, the body of water is called Lake Ontario. We are living in Waterdown which belongs to the hamilton province. It’s quite close to Toronto and also Niagara Falls.

  2. Love the snowangels!! Wanna see Lachie in his ice-skating tutu (oh Ice-hockey gear). Need some photos of you Janice….. LOL Ginny and Scot
